25th Anniversary Picnic … Oh yes, oh yes – in a fit of yesteryear hometown Americana – the Tamers celebrated their 25th anniversary of being a wheeling club by having a picnic trimmed out in the finest old style tradition of just getting together in the park to hang, yak, and eat. Lake Sammamish State Park was the scene of many conversations, good natured jokes, being drug around the lake behind Gary’s speedboat, too many good things to eat, horseshoes to be tossed, photos being snapped – as the Timber Tamers celebrated this milestone in their existence as a club. Doe Run or The Running of the Does ……..
I couldn’t tell you about the start of the Doe run, as I wasn’t there. I was home doing a few other Tamer related repairs to Moosenstein – trying to make the passenger compartment a little more livable on what likely was the hottest day of the year thus far. These activities included closing up the temperature door in the heater, opening the vent (none of which could be accomplished via the now long rusted and useless control cables still attached to the slide knobs on the dash.) That plus going from a 195 to a 160 degree thermostat promised to make this a more temperate trip than the previous weekend. While I think Jeepster Commando Moosenstein is a much better trail rig than the CJ 5 Moose that preceded it, there is still a lot to be said for no doors and a folded down windshield. I do miss them, sorely. Continue reading “Doe Run Jul 2004”
The “DOH”! run was initially suggested by Tom (moose) James (and helped to be named by Rick) as a pre-Doe run. Patrice and I met up with the group at the Highway 410 cafĂ© in Buckley at about 9:30am. It was a beautiful 70+ degree morning and promising to get warmer as the day went on. Tom and Eileen had gone to Mike Robinson’s place to drop off Tom’s truck and trailer. Upon their return we made our way to Greenwater / Forest service road 70 and on up to the trail head. Fathers Day @ Elbe (#7) … Another Memorable Father’s Day at Elbe……
Well – a Father’s Day without Elbe, would be kinda like – well – a Fear Factor bimbo participant without silicone. The two just go together! I’ve lost count – this was at least the 6th Father’s Day running of Elbe – or maybe even more than that. Elbe is still a trail system that is more demanding than most – but a number of key things have changed that really alter some of the more memorable parts of Elbe. My Soul It Sings of Wheeling…..
You gotta know, that there is not much better than a late winter run on a sunny Saturday in February, to stir the soul and make you think that most anything is possible. So started the February club run in the morning at the Buzz-Inn at Smokey Point, Continue reading “Mountain Loop Hwy Feb 2004”

Back To The Basics…..
In any repeatable endeavor involving human activity, or even more to the point, in human nature, any action tends to generate its own set of rules. As humans, right or wrong, good or bad, we tend to do the same stuff the same way all the time. Things that work out form the basic rules. Things that don’t work out are what happen when you ignore the basic rules. The Sunday club run to Reiter Trails was a good reminder of what the rules are, and what can happen when you ignore them.
