Fun Day at Reiter Trails with the North West Wheelers Jun 2007

The day started early with me waking up to fix my Jeep. I had suffered massive failure of my rear upper control arm mounts on the frame. Thus ensuing an all night work session at Tommybilt Fab getting the mounts replaced (Thanks Tom!!!!). Anywho, I arrived in the parking area at about 10am. Cody was there with some brake issues on his TLC. We bled the brakes and got him a little pedal. But it still wasn’t up to snuff.

Cody and I headed up to the Index Wall trail to meet up with the rest of the group. We took our time and wheeled the tight area through the trees. This was my first real run on my new tires and I was loving the traction. We met up with the main group who was on the BYS trail. Cody and I parked at the end of BYS and walked in to watch the folks wheeling the very tight, very difficult trail. The vehicles there ranged from buggies to built Jeeps. Jonathan was there in his YJ taking everyone to school. His rig wasn’t the most built of the group, but with finesse and precision driving he was able to navigate the harder obstacles on the trail without winching. Eric had his huge CJ on the trail, and with no front locker to pull him through the tight trees it made for some slow going. He also broke his winch rope due to the fact that he didn’t have a fairlead. He decided to turn around and wait for the rest of the group to finish out the trail. Kurt in his Rubicon mangled his passenger side fender pretty bad. (Hey they match mine now) but aside from that, there were no major issues.

After completing BYS, the group headed down to the rock garden to play around. I managed to make a few of the lines I never had before due to the increased tire size and better grip provided. I did get stuck in a few places and Taylor was kind enough to run cable for me when I needed it. On one of the obstacles in the RG, I tried every possible line I could think of, but just couldn’t make it. Out came the cable, and right behind me, Jonathan drove right up it. I should have been following him. Kurt in his TJ also make it up after a few goes at the different approach angles.

While the group was having fun on one of the more robust obstacles in the rock garden, Matt managed to break his front driveline into two pieces. I helped him get out of the situation by pulling a lot of cable for him. After we got done with that, we decided to head home. The rest of the group ran sac-up, and Matt with his Girlfriend, and I headed into town for some frosty cold ones. And they sure were good for what a hot day it was.

It was an excellent day wheeling and a great group to hit the trails with. I can’t wait to do it again.
