Clubs and users unite together showed up on Saturday April 15th for the annual Hefty Haul Out hosted by Region One’s Rainier Ridge Rams 4×4 Club at the Walker Valley ORV Park in Skagit County. We met at the lower gravel pit as base camp following ever so strategically placed RRR direction signs.
Weather was cold but sunny with a chance of rain later on, so we got busy quickly!
Serving and coordinating with the new DNR Trails Manager Josh, and newly hired Trail Steward Brigan we set out to clean up the approximately 50 miles of trails and roadways. But first things first!
With years of setup experience Kevin V made quick work to get everyone in order. Many thanks to Dawn T and Jessica S for stepping up to help with sign in! Josh had experience too and offered pre-printed DNR volunteer sheets. Shane and crew were able to funnel rigs thru the line for sign up and parking. Much gratitude to Kyle F to rescue a certain someone!
All set with a driver meeting and directions users from many clubs and businesses set out to do some work and have a bit of fun doing it!
Lunchtime was set for 11am! Huge thanks to Neil and Bryon from WOHVA (Washington Off Highway Vehicle Alliance) for providing a hot lunch on a brand spanking new BBQ’r. They offered the full deal including dessert! And the opportunity to sign up and purchase swag too!.
Back out on the cleanup everyone went. Amazing of some of the items found. TV’s, household furniture, super duty hood, microwave, gallons of oil, baby car seats and a huge dump site including ID. The authorities will be contacting them shortly! At base camp, members separated the trash into trailers. Trash in the larger one, Scrap metal and tires into the other. No word yet of the actual tonnage.
Thank you for all the volunteers who showed up to make this happen and the Rainier Ridge Rams to execute it. Well done!
Total volunteers signed in were 105. From the Assocation there were
3 Hombres
3 Cascade 4×4’s
20 Timber Tamers, 13 Rigs, 170 Volunteer Hours
25 Rainier Ridge Rams
There were also 55 Guests with members from the National Motorcycle Association, Department of Natural Resources Volunteers, NW Quad Association, Walker Valley Rentals and more.
If you ever wonder WHY you should join a club or organization this is it! Broken record time! Keeping areas open as well as working in harmony with the land managers to better the area. These hours served are used for a variety of items including acquiring grants to help build new trails and structures (picnic, bathrooms, camping areas, parking lots) and more. Your time spent is not only spent having a great time with friends but also enabling the future of riding areas.
Till next year, keep up the great trail work and always turn in you hours!
Have I told you all how wonderful you are lately? You are Wonderful!
Happy Trails.
